We had planned for a long time to simply go out in our own free time, to actively do something against the omnipresent pollution and to collect trash. A small impulse probably gave us the action "RhineCleanUp" with which we collected together the first time garbage for the good purpose. We enjoyed it so much that we vowed to do small clean ups ourselves in our own free time.
The first private Clean Up was the 08.10.22, which we carried out in the small village Birkenau (in the district Hornbach).
Before that, of course, we got ourselves some good (in our opinion) grippers. We have opted here for just those that have a metal mechanism. Because all the other "fancy" solutions that I have looked at so, were mostly made of plastic and if you read through reviews about it, then the opinions were but rather mixed. I myself was also not convinced that a garbage grabber made of plastic will be characterized by enduring durability. So we went to the local hardware store and opted for the above-mentioned garbage collector, which is mainly made of metal.
You can also see the garbage collector in the gallery below.
Our action radius
In the red marked path we were in the form of a circuit, for which we needed a total of 2h.
We spent most of our time at a small bridge (red circle in the map above) where the river Hornbach flows through. Apparently this place invites to dump one's garbage while passing by or during the car ride.
In the following map excerpt I have represented this to you again in more detail:
The red areas were predominantly loaded with residual waste of various kinds and isolated bottles, while the blue area shows the roadside ditch, in which we found 8/10 bottles. For us, this was not quite comprehensible, considering that there is glass container for disposal nearby (blue rectangle).
Unfortunately, after a "control visit" about 2 months later, we found that there were again isolated glass & plastic bottles lying around.
The result of the action
| Residual waste collected (kg) | 5,3 |
| Collected bottles (pcs) | 10 |
| Time required | 2h |
